Dun Miniature Highland Bull – PROVEN!

Meet Dunniel!

Dunniel is a dun-colored Highland x Dexter cross bull with a small, bulky, and compact frame. He is approximately 42 inches tall and 4.5 years old.

He is not a full Highland, but he brings a very valuable mix of traits: small size, strong structure, easygoing temperament, and proven breeding ability while still allowing hair to show up.

Size and Structure

Dunniel has a very compact build with a sturdy, smaller frame. Because of his Highland x Dexter genetics, he offers a nice balance of substance and size.

He has some hair, but not an excessive amount. His value is in the way he helps produce small, calm, easy-to-handle calves with great disposition.

Calving and Breeding Value

Dunniel has consistently produced low birth weight calves, usually around 20–30 pounds.

This makes him a very valuable option for a breeding program that wants smaller calves at birth, compact structure, and a more manageable mature size.

He also gets his job done extremely well and has been a reliable breeding bull for our program.

What He Passes to His Calves

One of Dunniel’s strongest qualities is the temperament he stamps on his offspring.

His calves have been some of the sweetest, most docile, and friendliest babies we have raised. Many of them become naturally social just from seeing us in the pasture, which speaks to the amazing temperament Dunniel passes down.

He is a great choice for someone who values calm, friendly, people-oriented cattle.

Hair and Highland Influence

Because Dunniel is a Highland x Dexter cross, the amount of hair his calves have depends on the cow.

When bred to hairy Highland cows, his calves can have lots of hair while still keeping a very small, compact size.

When bred to cows with less Highland influence, his calves usually still have a good amount of hair, but not the extra-fluffy Highland look.

His Personality

Dunniel is extremely calm, slow moving, and easy to be around. He loves butt scratches and will let you love on him for hours.

He has a gentle, steady personality and is very people-friendly. His calm nature makes him enjoyable to handle and a pleasure to have in the pasture.

A Great Fit

Dunniel could be a wonderful fit for a breeding program looking for:

  • Very small, compact calves
  • Low birth weights
  • Docile and friendly offspring
  • Strong temperament improvement
  • A calm, proven breeding bull
  • Highland influence without excessive size
  • Smaller calves with hair when bred to the right cows
